Live reviews
I was introduced to Martha's music just a couple weeks ago. Thought it was ok. Maybe even worth seeing live. Booked to see her at the Half Moon Putney. And it was going to be filmed. Oooooo. Exciting. And it was. The stage was tarted up with flowers and tables and chairs placed around the stage in a Parisian cafe style. She played piano for the filmed set and then acoustic guitar for the gig proper. The music was perfect and the singing heart felt and very engaging. She is from the Leonard Cohen school of singer song writers, as I am sure she would freely admit. The audience even got to fill in during the choruses. A very pleasant and satisfying evening. She also signed her new cd for me after the show.
Would I go again? You bet ya.
what can one say about her performance other than WOW!!
Two songs into the set the shoes come off and you can
feel her enthusism ,knowing she is going to enjoy herself so
you can be certain of a great night. The songs just seemed to
appear ,like there was no playlist ,just lets do this one now.
Ably supported by her band ,she gave us a performance of
such quality ,with an intimate naivity she changes from the
consumate artist into a young girl excitedly skipping across
the stage then to end the show wanders amongst us to deliver
a tradional song with her unique voice that just empowered
and lifted you up with it to resound across the rafters of
the beautiful old church.
thankyou tony
I have only watched a YouTube video of Martha Tilston and was therefore very new to this artist. Her performance was sublime. The musicianship was excellent and the vocal performance was outstanding, even though she had only previously recovered from a cold.
The venue was very welcoming and intimate and she was able to engage with the audience with a range of insightful comments and the odd joke.
I also loved her song lyrics and look forward to listening to the CD bought on the night. I was also surprised to hear an acoustic version of Glory Box, which I really enjoyed. I will be recommending her to all of my friends.
Hypnotiser. Perfect new venue, brilliant support from Nathan Ball and his amazing guitar skills. Martha and band musically gifted, relaxed and funny and confident enough to cover Portishead and Massive Attack with style and grace. But that voice, oh that voice. Utterly perfact, decidely Real :)
