Biography
The name Savant has proved a highly appropriate moniker for Norwegian producer Aleksander Vinto, who has managed a highly prodigious output since he started making music in 2009. Drawing influence from dubstep, drum’n’bass, electro-house, glitch-hop, and chip tune, the musician’s debut release was the 2009 album “Outbreak” released under the moniker Vintor in Hollywood. Introducing his often elaborate style to a whole new audience, the record was later nominated for a Norwegian Spelleman Award. A year later after signing with SectionZ, the album “Mamachine” was issued by the label, this time under the name Vinter in Vegas.
The DJ and producer subsequently released the full-length “Ninür” in 2011, and four impressive albums in 2012, “Vario”, “Overworld”, “ISM”, and “Alchemist”. The latter album of which topped the Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Electro-House, Glitch Hop, Drumstep, Indie Dance/Nu Disco, and overall Beatport charts. Savant subsequently released a pair of EPs “The Ritalin Project” and “Mindmelt” later in 2012 to test out future material. The international appeal and widespread popularity this afforded the musician led Savant to tour extensively across North America, and remix well-known artists including Kelis, “P!NK, Daft Punk, Justice, and Armand Van Helden.
The free studio album “Overkill” arrived in 2013, followed a few months later by the full-length “Cult”, and “Orakel” in December 2013. The latter release peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. iTunes Dance Chart and cemented Savant’s revered position in electronic music. In 2014 SectionZ issued Savant’s 11th studio album “Protos” that was marked more by the influences of space rock than EDM and topped the Bandcamp Electronica and Overall Charts. The full-length “Zion” followed peaking at No. 19 on the Billboard Dance Chart, and No. 24 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. Savant issued his 13th studio album in six years, “Invasion”, in 2015, which marked his most bubbly to date, and led esteemed producer deadmau5 to refer to Savant as “the change that electronic music needs”.
Live reviews
Everything about Savant is full on and his live shows are no different. Outrageous bass and shocking synths meet pounding drums in an arena of bright lights, crazy graphics and wild dancing with Savant standing tall at head of this chaos, shielded by his trademark mask.
Real name Aleksander Vinter, the Norwegian producer takes his alias from the belief that ‘Savant Syndrome’ has given him otherworldly musical talents that have allowed him to produce over 10000 songs in his lifetime so far. This is just more of the general hyperbolic chaos that surrounds Savant, something that resonates with his fans on a deep level. At his shows, crowds of people lose their minds to the sharp electrical sounds Savant produces, reaching almost like trance-like states of elation every time Savant drops a beat.
As part of the prodigy-like talents Savant has inherited, he has undoubtedly gained the ability to send a crowd insane with joy, something he does every time he plays. Seeing what this man does to a crowd needs to be seen to be believed and you just might up getting carried away yourself.
A Savant show is surreal and staggering all at once. The DJ, real name Aleksander Vinter is a Norwegian export who is intent on putting his own personal twist on the genres of electro house and dubstep. He is praised universally for his expert abilities to cross multiple genres at once on his recorded material and luckily for fans he is able to attain this quality when performing the live show.
Known for producing songs at a lightning pace and having allegedly created over 10,000 songs in his career span, choosing the set must feel like a near impossible task however he expertly deciphers which tracks are likely to keep the huge crowd moving and dancing along to the warped beats. His masked appearance may seem off-putting yet it goes with the often surreal, trance heavy music. It is an undoubtedly strange dance show although when the genre is becoming oversaturated, Savant is exactly what it needs, a huge boost of originality.
