Interestingly, the beautiful, blonde, American singer primarily craved a career in marine biology, however was later apparently put off when she watched the famous shark attack film ‘Jaws”. The Texas born girl, is the youngest of three children, her brother, Jason, actually appeared in one of her music videos.
Kelly Clarkson performed in several musicals in her hometown school, Burleson High School, including, ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ and, ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. Additionally, she also impressively sang at her school talent show, to which she received a great response and was given lots of positive feedback. Subsequently this encouraged her to peruse singing lessons and classical training.
In 2002, Kelly’s primarily emerged on the public’s radar in 2002 through the talent show, American Idol, of which she won. This was her breakthrough and since, she has never looked back. Kelly became a worldwide pop symbol!
Since the show, Kelly has excitingly sold over 20 million albums internationally, achieving and astonishing 7 singles on the highly regarded, ‘Top 10’ on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Furthermore, she has released four powerful studio albums, with three of them going platinum.
Through all her success, Kelly has also achieved a whopping two American Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, two MTV Music Awards, and 11 Billboard Music Awards. Wow.
Delightfully quirky and ridiculously talented, Kelly Clarkson is a once in a lifetime artist. Her shows are high energy, but not overly produced with simple sets and a rockin’ band. From the second she steps on stage, it’s clear the audience is there for one reason and one reason alone: that voice. If you’re not there for the shear euphoria of listening to Kelly sing, you might feel a bit out of place with those around you. Be prepared to hoot and holler as she hits a high note or belts a verse to perfection.
Next to her voice, the best thing about Kelly is her “This is me. Take it or leave it” attitude. She is unapologetically herself. No drama, no frills. She has no problem letting the audience in on the Hair of the Dog sloshing around in her solo cup—a necessary evil to cure a night of drunk bicycle riding at a friend’s birthday party the night before. You might even get a story or two about group yoga sessions with the band. I watched her trip once at a show in Milwaukee and twist her ankle so badly roadies had to carry her off stage—but not before hilariously raising her hands in salute to Molly Shannon’s Mary Katherine Gallagher from Saturday Night Live. You know? “Superstar!”
Perhaps a throwback to her Idol days, Kelly tends to perform a lot of covers, but each one will blow you away. From haunting versions of Florence and the Machine’s “Heavy in Your Arms”, to soaring vocals on any number of Aretha Franklin tunes, to crowd pleasing radio hits like Fun’s “We are Young,” Kelly nails every note and every line with emotion and reverence.
Whether she’s the opening act or the main event, Kelly will bring it. She’s a must-see!
