It always amazes me that artists are still able to find fresh ways of playing Jazz. For a genre that has been around for so long, you really would think you’d have heard it all by now. Then someone like Till Bronner comes along and takes influences from the likes of German Pop to country music and fuses it with the more traditional bebop and fusion elements of his sound to create something totally unique.
It’s a sound that is definitely best appreciated live as with any Jazz show, you’re never going to get the same set twice. Tiil’s solos are effortless as he trades technical call and responses with his sidemen and is never afraid to take the lead with his dulcet tones. His lead work is perfectly offset with the light and modern sounds of his backing band and it’s in the rhythm section that you really see some of those unconventional influences flourish. Till Bronner is a man doing his own thing and if you want the full force of his unique sound to grab you, its best you go and check him out live as soon as you can.
