Find out more about Metal.
Being an American, you don’t hear the term medieval metal thrown around in popular culture, or let alone most American culture. But in Berlin, Germany, there is a very live scene of medieval metal, a scene that In Extremo has taken upon themselves to be a part of. So I had to google what Medieval metal was, and turns out it was a blend of your average run of the mill metal music that uses medieval instruments like bagpipes, harp, hurd-gurdy and shawm. Now this was extremely interesting, so seeing their live set was super interesting. Taking the stage clad in a mix of modern clothing and medieval garb, they take the stage and pick up their instruments. The band is fairly large in number, but given the massive sound that they produced, it made complete sense. To my surprise, their songs are written in a variety of languages; the ones I could distinguish were English, Spanish, French, German and even Hebrew. The variation on the languages, the instrumentals, and the different types of people really made for an extremely unique show. The live set draws a huge crowd of people, and the variation of people were quite surprising as well.
