Heltah Skeltah and O.g.c.

Duck Down Music and the Boot Camp Clik represent an era of New York City hip-hop that focused on the hardworking tenacity of the scene, prioritizing bars over bling. In their late-’90s heyday, the imprint released nine albums including classics from Smif-N-Wessun and Black Moon. The first music to emerge from their label deal with Priority Records would be from newcomers Heltah Skeltah (Rock and the late Sean Price) & O.G.C. (Starang Wondah, Louieville Sluggah, and Top Dog)—first as the supergroup the Fab Five in 1995, and later the following year as separate groups. This show in Bedford-Stuyvesant celebrates the 30th anniversary of those 1996 debuts: Heltah Skeltah’s Nocturnal & O.G.C.’s Da Storm, two albums that explore the city’s edges with sparse beats and cutting wordplay.
