Susumu Yokota was one of ambient music’s most quietly visionary artists. A prolific Japanese composer, DJ, and producer active from the late ’80s until his passing in 2015, Yokota moved fluidly between house, techno, and classical minimalism. But it was his experimental ambient work that revealed his deepest gift for atmosphere and stillness.

Released in 1999, Sakura is widely considered his masterpiece. Built from delicate loops, half-remembered melodies, and field recordings that blur the line between the natural and the electronic, the album plays like memory itself. Fragile, cyclical, and deeply moving.
