Kosheen

Kosheen are a truly British band, in the respect that their members hail from England, Wales and Scotland; they’re based in Bristol, however, and whilst they haven’t been an active band for quite as long, it’s difficult not to think that they haven’t always been kind of in the shadow of another trip hop band from that same city - Portishead. Nevertheless, over the course of a fifteen year career to date, Kosheen have met with plenty of success; the band, named after a combination of the Japanese words for old and new, have certainly focused more on the latter down the years, pushing the boundaries with a consistently fresh sound ever since dropping their old-certified debut Resist in 2001; the lead single from the album ‘Hide U’, went to number six on the UK charts. Despite that success, though, they’ve kind of flown under the radar since; granted, the follow-up album to Resist, Kokopelli, also went gold, but they remain a cult band, with their hardcore following packing intimate rooms for their gigs. The focal point of their shows is the commanding stage presence of singer Sian Evans, who’s ethereal vocal tones generate atmosphere by the spade; it’s something she continued to bring to proceedings at shows in support of last year’s Solitude.

Throughout the 2000s, Welsh singer & songwriter Sian Evans was known for being a front woman and singer-songwriter of the band Kosheen, a popular & well respected trip-hop/drum’n’bass group that, during that decade, placed two albums within the Top Ten of the U.K. album chart. Kosheen had released five studio albums.

After having spent almost two decades writing and performing with Kosheen, Sian has performed all over the world including Australia, Russia, Japan and the USA to name only a few, as well as countless UK and European festivals.

In 2011, Sian Evans teamed up with Dj Fresh writing and featuring on the number 1 smash hit ‘Louder‘. It was released on 3 July 2011 on Ministry of Sound. The song debuted at number 1 in the UK Singles Chart, UK Dance Chart, UK Indie Chart and the Scottish Charts with first week sales in excess of 140,000 copies. ‘Louder‘ is considered an important landmark for dubstep music as it was the first of its’ genre to reach number 1 in the UK Singles Chart. Since then the single ‘Louder’ has won many awards including the Urban Music Award for best dance single and has been a worldwide hit. Sian also penned ‘Hot Right Now’ for Rita Ora, providing her with her first ever number 1 hit.

She also appears on several tracks on Roger Shah‘s artist album ‘Openminded!?‘. A new version of ‘Hide U‘ along with two other original tracks ‘In The Light‘ and ‘Shine‘ all appear on the album. Sian has also collaborated with many artists and producers such as Dino Psaras, Dr. Meaker, Jolyon Petch, Jody Wisternoff, Brains, Martin Eyerer, Chicane, Paul Hazendonk, Lee Dagger, Bent, EZ Rollers and Bench.

Currently Sian Evans touring with her solo shows. Her live performances have always been delivered with her unique ability to convey every lyric to each and every member of her audience with flawless vocals, charismatic charm and boundless enthusiasm.
